The first week of the campaign

As we started the campaign we were checking the results regularly. In the beginning we reached our daily limit ($10) too early, therefore we set lower bidding price. It resulted in a higher clicking rate per day.
We were thinking a lot about making a search-restriction by areas. Our idea was that we could put special commercials of the different offers of the local stores, but than we figured out that it would not make any sense. Hungary is a small country and there are not big differences in the demand of the consumers between the regions. Therefore their search would be very similar. The centralized services offered on the homepage also did not support this idea.
After checking the keywords regularly, we could redefine the wordlist for the commercials with adjustment to the most popular topics and searches.
We have also checked the blogs and tips about AdWords in Hungary. We have read blogs like
http://keresomarketing.blogter.hu/; http://onlinemarketing.blog.hu/.

We are all very excited about the next week of the campaign!

Getting started

On 28th April the Google contest day. Start: 10 AM Finish: nobody knows (yet).

We have discussed several options for the actual start and after around two hours of discussion we could agree on with which area to start.

Than we have split up the tasks in order to be more efficient with the work. Gabor and Andras were filtering and colleting keywords, while Bea and David were editing the advertisments.

New project.

After a few weeks, Gabor our team leader brought back Google contest to our brains. We held a team meeting, where we agreed in the new the project timing and the new company: Praktiker, a retailer in the Do It Yourself (DIY) market.

We set the start time to 28.th of April and Gabor started to get into touch with Praktiker. After a week, confirmed our plans and timing.

Starting

Few month ago, somebody has sent us an email about Google’s new contest to our college’s mailing list. Gabor, András and Me are interested in web marketing and other web 2.0 technologies, so we decided to sign up. We had to find a fourth team member, and Bea with her business experiences looked like a perfect choice for us. She agreed, so the team was set up.
Our first task was to find a teacher from our university (Corvinus University of Budapest, CUB) for the team. It was not that easy to find an expert on Web based marketing in a university of economics as it turned out. Luckily after a few mails we have found Barbara, a PHD student at the Institute of Marketing, who joined our team. She was open to the contest, and held as much as she could from the very beginning.
The next mission was to find a company to advertise.
We had many ideas on choosing the right company. The first thing we took into account was the season: spring. The chosen company has to do something with spring to have demand for its products of services. We have considered the following industries came: Wedding organizer, Vitamin pills, house furnishing and travel agencies. We opted for the vitamin pills, so we asked Béres Zrt. a leader vitamin and OTC producer in Hungary if they would like to be advertised by us, and by Google. After a few email they said no. The reason: they have bigger plans in online advertising.
In this period, we had lot of other things to do, and on the top of it all the chosen company said no to us, so we lost our ambition for a few weeks… But it did not last forever!
